1. NHK’s Environmental Initiative

NHK has been recognized for more than half a century of efforts to draw the attention of society to environmental issues by producing and airing excellent environmental programmes. This workshop will offer an opportunity to look into the development of NHK’s environmental initiatives, including the production of environmental programmes, the Eco Archives library, etc.

2. The Day the Water Died: Hebei Spirit Oil Spill Disaster

This workshop is designed to rouse public awareness on the worst environmental disaster of Hebei Spirit oil spill in Korea that struck Taean last December. Various speakers who have been on the scene making all efforts to better the situation will be present not only to remind the ongoing disaster but also to discuss possible actions to cope with it.

3. Environment & Me

Meet the faces of environmental activism in Korea! It does not always have to be a lifetime decision to get involved in environmental activism which is often considered as something too serious to jump in easily. Listening to the passionate speakers about how it all started, sometimes from such a simple idea or deed, and to their pain and joy, may provide inspiration for a way of life in which hopes and actions for a better world do matter.

4. Master Class: Shooting Wildlife

Whether it was a brown bear family residing in the untouched nature of the Kamchatka or Alaskan caribous on a long journey across the tundra area, there must have been extraordinary skills behind shooting the breath of wildlife with cameras.
With experienced wildlife filmmakers present at this talk, discover the secret and magic behind the scene of wildlife films.

5. Learning from Ancient Futures with Helena Norberg-Hodge

A linguist by training and a native of Sweden, Helena Norberg-Hodge has examined and criticized conventional notions of development. She is also the author of numerous works, including highly acclaimed ‘Ancient Futures: Learning from Ladakh’, who has been trying to preserve the strength of Ladakh culture facing changes of globalization and urbanization.
After a screening of the documentary related to the book, a talk with her about how changes of living environment affect on people and culture will be following.

6. Meet the Environmental Filmmakers

Every afternoon during the festival period, meet the environmental filmmakers at Cafe Saeng Saeng. It will offer an opportunity for the audience who have not been satisfied with the usual festival Guest Talk, to have the casual conversation with the filmmakers. Korean and international guests of GFFIS, who have taken part in the making of the environmental films, can share the environmental issues and the background history of production.
